Global Partnerships
Gone are the days in the automotive world when all brands could seemingly survive all alone. With the automotive industry now highly competitive and costs continuing to rise, most major manufacturers have forged partnerships in order to succeed together, especially in tough markets.
Ford has been on a path to rework its business model globally, trying to compete in markets that have largely been taken over by manufacturers from China. Geely has also been trying to diversify its business by opening more doors to collaboration, and this has brought both companies together.

Ford x Geely Euro SUV
Ford and Geely officially entered into a partnership in July 2026 to form a joint venture (JV) that will produce low-emissions vehicles out of Ford’s Valencia, Spain plant with a focus on the European market. The partnership puts Ford as the majority holder at 66% of the shares, while Geely’s 34% was acquired through its Centurion Industries subsidiary.
Automotive News reports that new details have emerged about the JV; specifically, Geely’s GEA platform will serve as the base of a new Ford SUV slated for European release and sales. The Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) by Geely is part of the new trend for automakers, who are able to produce platforms that can be used for both electric and plug-in hybrid drivetrains, as opposed to having separate ones that complicate production and increase cost.

Ford DNA
Ford’s use of the GEA platform was confirmed by the new chairman of Geely Auto Group, An Conghui. An said as much during a company earnings call held just a few days ago. He also confirmed that Geely will be utilizing Ford’s Valencia plant to produce Geely models to help bolster its portfolio in the region. Geely’s partnership program is now in full swing, with another existing agreement with the Renault group that uses the GEA platform in some models for the South American market.
Ford is keen to point out, though, that despite the GEA underpinnings, the multi-energy powertrain SUV will have a rally-bred design from Ford and the driving dynamics that evoke the brand’s racing heritage.
