By all accounts, Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to be released this year. However, if you are planning to get your hands on it, you might have a hard time doing so. This is according to a recent DigiTimes report, which claims that the foldable iPhone production has been slightly delayed.
Foldable iPhone production might have been delayed
According to the report, the production of the foldable iPhone has been delayed slightly. Apple was reportedly planning to kick off mass production as soon as this July. However, the report says that it has slipped to August. Now, the good news is that Apple is still planning to launch it this year. It’s just that with production delayed, there might not be enough units at the start.
This means that unless you’re quick to pull the trigger, you might have to wait several weeks or even months before production stabilizes. This is actually not the first time we’ve heard this. A previous report from Nikkei Asia also made similar assertions. However, what’s interesting is that Bloomberg later countered those rumors.
The Bloomberg report claimed that Apple’s foldable is on track to arrive during the normal iPhone launch period, which is typically around September. Now, it is possible that DigiTimes and Bloomberg might be both correct. While production delays could affect the number of units available, Apple might still announce the phone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.Â
What can we look forward to?
If the rumors are true, this will officially mark Apple’s entry into the foldables space. A lot of eyes are on Apple to see if they can pull it off, or maybe do so in a way that could reignite interest in foldables. But can we look forward to?
For starters, Apple’s foldable is going to be wider than it is taller. So far, the majority of foldables we’ve seen tend to have tall and narrow outer displays. When unfolded, it looks more like a square than a rectangular tablet. That’s something Apple is changing, creating a more iPad mini-like interior. This will result in a smaller external display, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
A recent leak has also suggested that the phone could pack a 5,800mAh battery. But don’t expect it to be cheap. We’ve also heard this could be Apple’s most expensive iPhone ever. Will it be worth the money? We’ll have to wait and see.
