Google has been teasing a new screenless Fitbit wearable device since March of this year. Recently, a leak suggested the screen-less Fitbit Wearable could officially launch as the Fitbit Air. Google’s “Performance Advisor”, Steph Curry, has also been teasing the design of the device on his social media accounts. Now, a new leak has tipped the colors, pricing, and launch date information about the Fitbit Air screenless wearable.
New leak points to an affordable price and colors for the screenless Fitbit Air wearable
According to the supply chain sources, Google will launch the Fitbit Air at an event on May 16. As of now, it’s not clear if it will be a proper physical launch event or an online-only event. Additionally, the report suggests the Fitbit Air could cost around $93, which means Google will likely retail it for approximately $99 or $100.
As for the colors, users will have four different band types to choose from at launch. The core color options will include obsidian, lavender, and berry. There will be active band and performance loop options for heavy workouts, which will be up for grabs in obsidian, fog, berry, and lavender.
Google will also offer a softer, elevated softflex band, which should offer a comfortable fit in obsidian, moonstone, or porcelain hues. Finally, there will be a metal mesh band in silver or warm gold for a more appealing look.
The company will bundle it with the new “Google Health” subscription
According to reports, Google is going to rebrand the “Fitbit Premium” subscription service to “Google Health” with the arrival of the Fitbit Air. The service will unlock additional artificial intelligence features. Google is currently previewing its new “personal health coach,” which it will call “Google Health Coach.” It’s worth mentioning that during the testing period, Google hasn’t distinctly branded the service beyond “Coach”.
It appears that Google’s Fitbit Air is shaping up to be a serious challenger to Whoop in the wearable segment. Right now, Whoop is one of the biggest players in the screenless health tracking market. However, Google’s upcoming affordable device will give Whoop a stiff competition.
