After leaking the Lenovo Googlebook 2-in-1 last week, now DigitalCitizen is here with one of Lenovo’s new Googlebook laptops. This is apparently called the Lenovo Googlebook 15, and will have a 15.6-inch display, of course.
This is one of a slew of Googlebooks that are set to launch this fall, with others coming from Acer, ASUS, Dell, and HP.
There’s not a lot of mystery with this Googlebook, it looks a lot like Lenovo’s other laptops. The big difference here is the keyboard. There is, of course, the Googlebook branding on the keyboard, as well as the dedicated Gemini key where the Windows key would normally be. Keep in mind, Gemini is going to be a huge part of the Googlebook experience.
Lenovo is using dual speakers on either side of the keyboard here, which should produce some pretty good sound. It does look like these will be Dolby Atmos speakers too. On the port side, there will be one HDMI, one USB-A, two USB-C, and a headphone/microphone combo jack available. The power button also lives on the right side of the Googlebook. So there’s not a ton of ports here, but enough to keep most people happy. Seeing that HDMI port is definitely a huge deal.
The software here looks a bit like a mix of ChromeOS and macOS. It’s got the bottom tray as we have on Chrome OS (also on macOS), but it also has the status bar at the top, similar to what macOS has. Though the time and date are on the opposite side from the rest of the status icons.
Lenovo’s trademark notch and privacy shutter are also here
A few other tidbits from the hardware side are trademark Lenovo features. Like the notch on the top of the screen. This allows the webcam to have space without intruding into the display, but it also makes it easier to open the laptop with one hand. And Lenovo’s popular physical privacy shutter is also available. So you can keep people from spying on you through your webcam.
There’s no word on pricing or availability yet. However, with IFA set to take place in the first week of September, we do expect that will be when Lenovo (and other brands) announce their Googlebook offerings. Pricing is going to be a huge question mark, considering the current memory crisis.
