Huawei has started taking pre-orders for the yet-unannounced Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold handset, and as part of that, the phone’s design has been revealed as well.
The Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold design has been revealed
If you take a look at the gallery below, you’ll see the Huawei Mate XT 2 in the flesh. You can see all three colors of the phone, and something else you’ll notice is that it differs from the Huawei Mate XT and XTs in one important way.
It does have a display on the back when fully unfolded, unlike its predecessor. The Galaxy Z TriFold has one too, although in a different spot. The Galaxy Z TriFold’s is placed in the middle when fully unfolded, while you can see that Huawei’s is moved to the right when the phone is fully unfolded.
It will have a different folding mechanism
Either way, this signals that while the Huawei Mate XT 2 will not fold identically to the Galaxy Z TriFold, it will fold inward. So the Z-folding design with a single display will become a thing of the past. This unfortunately means that we won’t be getting three display size options, only two, fully folded and unfolded. On the Mate XT and XTs, you could fold just one side an have an 7.9-inch panel, in addition 6.4-inch and 710.2-inch options. You can see more images below.
The phone is coming in Obsidian Black, White, and Purple colors. It will come in four configurations, all of which will include 16GB of RAM. A 512GB storage variant will be available, along with a 1TB storage model. A special 1TB storage model with a privacy display feature will also be on offer. The top-end model will include 2TB of storage, a privacy display, and a stylus.
3D face recognitiion will be included as well
Huawei did not reveal the pricing of the phone yet. The phone measures just 3.5mm when unfolded, by the way. It will support 3D face recognition, and HarmonyOS 7 is expected to come pre-installed.
The phone will launch in China first, but a global model is also expected at some point. You can check out some videos with the device as well, they’re embedded below.
