Samsung has officially confirmed the Galaxy S23 series will get One UI 9.0 as its last major software update. The official confirmation covers all models, including the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. Galaxy S23 Ultra, and the budget Galaxy S23 FE. Samsung launched all four models in 2023 running the Android 13-based One UI 5.1. The brand promised four generations of major Android software upgrades for all these models.
A new report verifies the promised software update timeline
The well-known tipster named Tarun Vats recently shared a screenshot on X, showing a conversation with a customer support representative from Samsung. During this conversation, the company official verified that the brand plans Android 17, based on One UI 9.0, as the last big update for the Galaxy S23 FE.
Since the whole Galaxy S23 family launched with the same Android version and falls under the same policy, this news also applies to the other three models in the series. The phones have received three major Android updates and currently boot One UI 8.5. Now, by delivering the One UI 9.0 update, the company is keeping its original promise of four major OS upgrades.
All the Galaxy S23 models will continue getting essential Android security patches
It’s worth mentioning that the One UI 9.0 update marks the end of new features and major software updates for these phones. However, it doesn’t mean these phones will be obsolete after this update. The brand will continue releasing security patches for a fifth year for all the models. This gives users of these phones plenty of time to decide if they want to buy a new handset or keep using the one they have.
