Fairphone is becoming more well-known in the smartphone space for being the company that makes user-repairable smartphones, but it also makes audio products like earbuds, and has confirmed that it will fully reveal the Fairbuds 2 in October. Like the company’s phones, the Fairbuds 2 will stay true to the belief that these earbuds should be easily repairable by users, so as not to force them to toss them out and get a new pair when it’s possible to fix them instead while also saving them money.
The launch of these new earbuds follows the launch of Fairphone’s most recent smartphone, the Fairphone Gen 6+, which went on sale back on August 19 for $649.99. This was also the first smartphone that Fairphone officially sold in the US directly to the consumer, having started with its last pair of earbuds before that, which were its first product to officially hit the US market.
The Fairphone Fairbuds 2 will launch in the EU first
Fairphone hasn’t given out a specific date for the US launch of these earbuds yet, but it has announced the reveal date, which is happening on October 14 according to reports and the company’s official post on X. It’s also being reported that these will launch in the EU first at a price of €119. The Fairbuds 2 will launch in the US at $119, so the same price in local currency, and will come “shortly after: the EU launch date.
Not a lot of detail is known about the new earbuds, but in Fairphone’s teaser images they appear to come in a green color. It is confirmed that these new earbuds will come with modular replacement parts, so users can swap out pieces as needed if something breaks or gets worn down. Additionally, they’ll support the LDAC codec that allows for higher resolution sound.
