Samsung made headlines earlier this year when it released the Exynos 2600 chipset. This is because Samsung basically beat Apple and Qualcomm to the punch with the first 2nm chip to the market. Now, thanks to a new leak, we have additional details of the Exynos 2700. This is Samsung’s upcoming flagship chipset expected to power 2027’s Galaxy S27 series.
Exynos 2700 details revealed
According to the leak provided by SemiAnalysis on X, we have more details about the Exynos 2700. For starters, the biggest change and potentially what could give it a massive boost in performance is the use of dual prime cores. This is versus the Exynos 2600 and the Exynos 2500 before that which featured a single prime core.
Assuming this post is accurate, we’re looking at the use of two C2 Ultra prime cores. However, it appears their clock speeds are a bit different. One is clocked higher at 4.24GHz, while the other is clocked at 3.36GHz. It also boasts eight C2 Pro cores, four of which are clocked at 3.74GHz. The other four clock in at 2.88GHz.
The leak also reveals an upgraded GPU in the form of the Xclipse 970. This is a step up from the Xclipse 960 in the Exynos 2600. It is also expected to be built on newer RDNA architecture. We don’t know how much better it will be compared to its predecessor, but it’s an upgrade nonetheless.
What else can we expect?
In addition to the use of dual prime cores and an upgraded GPU, a report from earlier this year hinted that the Exynos 2700 could introduce better thermals too. The report claimed that Samsung will adopt a side-by-side memory architecture. This will help reduce heat buildup compared to the sandwich process which was used in older designs.
As a result, we might be able to look forward to 30-40% improvement in memory bandwidth and improved overall power efficiency.
That being said, the rumors so far all suggest that Samsung will continue with its dual-chip strategy for the Galaxy S27. This means that the US version of the phones will get the Qualcomm chipsets, while the rest of the world gets the Exynos version. In the past, some users griped about the use of the Exynos chipset.Â
However, based on what we can see in the Exynos 2700, this time around it might actually be a good thing.
