Engineering life in the automotive industry is all about innovation. OEMs are constantly in pursuit of the next best thing while trying to remain competitive, staying ahead of tightening emissions rules, electrification advances, and crazy performance targets. Against this backdrop, manufacturers often spend a fortune replacing yesterday’s hardware with something cleaner, smaller, more potent, or more efficient. And while this means that exotic car engines are traditionally short-lived, that’s not always the case. Amazingly, some manufacturers can trace their current exotic engines back more than 20 years, even if their current iterations are radically different.
