Options for rear-wheel-drive, V8-engined muscle-car sedans were more plentiful in the early to mid-2000s, before many models adopted downsized powertrains in later iterations. Among American brands, this was largely limited to the Chrysler 300C SRT8 and the Dodge Charger, and for a brief period, the Pontiac G8. The G8 was one of the few models General Motors was forced to axe after only a few years on the market, with no brand from the General Motors umbrella offering an equivalent sedan to take its place.
