Can-Am has introduced two new side-by-side concepts, known as the Defender Prerunner and Maverick R XRay. They’re flights of fancy and this enabled designers to get creative and imagine a six-wheeled beast.
The result is the Defender Prerunner, which is envisioned to be the “ultimate remote race support vehicle.” In order to tackle some of the most demanding terrain on earth, the model has been equipped with six beadlock wheels that are wrapped in 35-inch off-road tires.

The crew cab ‘truck’ has a LinQ bed, which houses a spare tire carrier. The concept has also been equipped with front and rear winches, auxiliary lights, and platforms for holding tools or replacement parts. Elsewhere, there are fuel jugs, shovels, and a front skid plate.
Can-Am didn’t say much about the interior, but it features Sparco seats with four-point harnesses. They’re joined by a flat-bottom steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and an infotainment system.
Moving on, the Maverick R XRay is born for sand dunes. It lights up the night thanks to translucent, backlit panels over an exoskeleton structure. It kind of looks like an illuminated wasp nest and it begs you to stay out of the way.
While the lights are cool, they’re functional as they change to red when braking. They can also be “programmed to display various lighting patterns that bring an inspired and dynamic show to the dunes.”
The two-wheel drive concept features a lightweight design and an active roof spoiler. They’re joined by paddle tires as well as Sparco seats.
