As the compact/crossover SUV segment took off in the mid 2000s, BMW’s entry soon followed – the BMW X3. Serving as a smaller sibling of their widely successful BMW X5 midsize SUV, the X3 was intended to further dominate the emerging SUV segment as families flocked to more gas-efficient, upmarket offerings to serve as safe and practical movers for their demands.
