We’re in August, and just in time, Google has started rolling out the August 2026 Google Play System update to eligible Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets. It’s worth noting that this is separate from your usual One UI 9 updates. While there’s no clear changelog to see what it offers, these updates usually bring bug fixes, performance improvements, security enhancements, and more.
Samsung phones and tablets are receiving the August 2026 Google Play System update
The August 2026 Google Play System update seems to be available to all Samsung phones and tablets running One UI 8.5 and older. That eliminates the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 that boot the One UI 9 skin. The update reportedly comes in at 101MB in size, which isn’t a lot.
You can get the update by heading to Settings > Security and privacy > Updates > Google Play system update. Once you install it, you may notice bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features related to Google apps and services.

Available for devices running One UI 8.5
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 are still running the Google Play System version dated May 1, 2026. Well, at least in most regions globally. As for the Galaxy S26 series, it’s reportedly getting a 12MB Google Play System update dated July 1, 2026. That said, there’ll be no major changes to the UI or such with this update.
Speaking of updates, even before Samsung rolls out One UI 9, details regarding One UI 9.5 have started surfacing. The leaked One UI 9.5 images, from an internal test build flashed onto a Galaxy S26, show a glass-inspired redesign with frosted elements. There’s a soft glow effect around the volume controls. It shows some tweaks to home screen widgets to make them stand out.
The Phone app may also be getting a revamp. This shifts the search controls down to a floating bottom navigation bar. While it may be too soon to judge, some feel that Samsung is taking inspiration from Apple’s Liquid Glass.
