October is shaping up to be unusually packed for Apple fans. Right alongside the retail launch of the iPhone Duo on October 23, fresh reports indicate the company is preparing to split its upcoming hardware announcements into two distinct waves before the month ends.
A late October Mac hardware push
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the first wave lands around Tuesday, October 13, focusing heavily on living room tech. That initial lineup expects an all-new home hub display designed to tie together smart home controls, paired with a refreshed HomePod mini and an upgraded Apple TV 4K for faster media playback.
Beyond that initial smart home push, additional sources cited by MacRumors indicate Apple is holding a second round of announcements during the final week of October. While Apple hasn’t officially detailed the lineup, this second window appears heavily focused on next-generation Mac hardware.
Expectations for the late October wave include the long-rumored “MacBook Ultra.” This laptop could sport a high-contrast OLED display and a thinner, lighter aluminum chassis. Apple is also expected to refresh its core computer line. The firm could debut new M6 chip-powered models for the base 14-inch MacBook Pro and the desktop iMac. For power users needing top-tier performance, Apple previously previewed a high-end Mac Studio configuration running an M5 Ultra chip paired with a massive 512GB of RAM. This one should also arrive during this window.
Redesigned iPad mini wild card
Another hardware candidate expected this month is an updated iPad mini. Rumors point to significant upgrades for the compact tablet. It could include a vibrant OLED display, an A20 Pro processor, a landscape-oriented front camera for better video calls, and a completely revamped speaker system.
It remains unclear whether Apple plans to group the new iPad mini with the smart home announcements on October 13, save it for the Mac wave in late October, or drop it via a standalone press release. Either way, between smart home refreshes, new Mac silicon, and tablet updates, Apple’s release calendar looks stacked.
