Remember all those years ago when companies were racing to become the first trillion dollar company? Well, Apple beat everyone to the punch in 2018 by being the first publicly traded US company to reach $1 trillion market value. Fast forward to today, and Apple, for a brief period in time, became a $5 trillion company.
Apple just touched the $5 trillion market cap
For those unfamiliar, a company’s market cap is based on their stock price. On July 28, for a brief moment, Apple actually managed to touch the $5 trillion market cap. This is thanks to the company’s stock price passing the $340 mark, pushing their market cap above $5 trillion for the first time ever.
However, share prices do fluctuate throughout the day, and unfortunately at closing, Apple’s market cap dropped to $4.99 trillion. Still, it’s impressive. Worth noting is that Apple wasn’t the first company to reach that milestone. That honor goes to NVIDIA, who hit that record in October 2025.
That being said, Apple remains the world’s most valuable public company. NVIDIA’s current market cap is sitting at $4.77 trillion. It’s still commendable, but it looks like Apple took its crown back.
What’s in the store for the future?
That being said, if Apple is hoping to maintain its lead and grow its market cap further, it needs to innovate. If it can break into new product categories and expand its offerings, we wouldn’t be surprised if one day, Apple could potentially hit the $10 trillion cap. But more importantly, what does Apple have in store for the future?
In the more immediate future, Apple is set to debut its first-ever foldable iPhone, the iPhone Ultra. Apple is also rumored to be expanding its smart home offerings. A recent Bloomberg report suggests that the company could launch a smart speaker with a display later this year powered by Siri AI.
As for the future, Apple is largely expected to step into the smart glasses space. While the Vision Pro was a commercial flop, Apple is rumored to be developing its own pair of lightweight smart glasses. This would be Apple’s answer to Meta’s Ray-Bans. If successful, it could do wonders for the company’s stock price.
