From what we’ve seen in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max leaks, the overall design of the phone won’t look too different from its predecessor. Sure, Dynamic Island might shrink a tad. The cameras also appear to be larger, but overall, it isn’t widely different. But that might change in 2028, with rumors claiming the 2028 iPhone could feature a 4-sided bending OLED display.
2028 iPhone could feature bending OLED display
According to Korean publication ETNews, they claim that Apple is currently in talks with Samsung and LG. It appears that for the 2028 iPhone, Apple wants to introduce a 4-sided bending OLED display. This means that instead of the display ending at the edge of the phone, it could curve around it.
It’s not surprising that both LG and Samsung are involved. Both companies are Apple’s current supplier for displays. But in this case, the report suggests that LG could be ahead of the curve. LG recently announced a $770 million investment of its OLED infrastructure. This could allow them to pull ahead of Samsung and potentially secure a larger order.
Samsung, instead of playing catch up, is apparently trying to decide if this investment is worth it. But according to ETNews’ source, there’s a good chance they will go ahead with the investment anyway.
This sounds familiar
If this 4-sided bending OLED display for the 2028 iPhone sounds familiar, it’s because it isn’t new. Some of you might recall that for the 20th anniversary iPhone, which is due in 2027, Apple is rumored to go with a mostly glass and metal construction. This is actually where we’ll first see this tech being used.
This means that for the 2028 model, Apple is refining it further by introducing a new cathode material. We’re not sure how much different it will be, but we’ll have to wait and see. So, if you aren’t a fan of the current iPhone design, maybe waiting it out for an extra year or two could be worth it.
In the meantime, for 2026, Apple is expected to launch three iPhone models. This includes the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, and the iPhone Ultra, Apple’s first foldable smartphone.
