Apple introduced the HomeView smart display at an event on October 13, and the company is yet to ship it to buyers. The brand has already revealed most of the key features of the new product. Now, recent software code findings have suggested that the device could do a lot more than just manage your thermostat and support video calls. A researcher known as pdfu claims that you can use Apple’s HomeView as a complete home security camera.
The Apple HomeView’s camera can turn it into a home security monitor
The researcher has posted in a Reddit thread that Apple’s HomeView Software 27.2 update’s code contains text strings, which indicates towards home security camera functionalities. These hidden options mention how the 12MP Center Stage camera of the device can connect with HomeKit Secure Video.
As per the source, the HomeView device users will get four operating modes to choose from. The first mode turns the camera off. The second option allows activity detection without capturing footage. The third mode permits live streaming to check the room. The final mode turns on both live streaming and video recording. The system is capable of capturing 1080p video at 30 frames per second.
The HomeView has built-in privacy alert features to prevent unwanted monitoring
Furthermore, the source suggests that Apple has focused heavily on keeping household members safe from any hidden snooping around. Whenever someone accesses the live video camera feed, the HomeView’s screen shows a green light and plays a warning sound. Notably, users can’t change these security settings silently as any adjustment sends an alert to all users in the household.
Apple hasn’t yet announced when the home security camera feature for the HomeView device is coming. However, we can expect Apple to introduce this feature as soon it launches the HomeView on November 13 for $299.
