Wide foldable smartphones are slowly but surely taking over. Those are not the only wide phones that are coming, though. Regular, slab wide handsets are also coming, as Huawei seemingly managed to start a trend in that area as well.
Huawei announced the Pura X View at the beginning of last month, and several other manufacturers now have plans to announce their own takes on that phone. OPPO is one of them, it seems.
OPPO is working on a non-foldable wide smartphone as well
According to a report by Digital Chat Station, one of the best-known tipsters around, OPPO is planning to announce a wide-format flagship smartphone. That panel is expected to have a 16:9 aspect ratio.
So, it will be narrower than the Huawei Pura X View, but only slightly. As a reminder, the Huawei Pura X View offers a 16:9.5 aspect ratio display. What’s interesting here is the fact that this will be a flagship, according to the tipster.
He also said that the phone will feature a LIPO tech display, while its bezels will be “ultra-slim” and “symmetrical”. The tipster was actually quite specific in this regard, as he mentioned 1mm thickness for those bezels.
The phone will be around 81mm wide
The phone will be around 81mm wide. For comparison’s sake, the Pura X View is 87mm wide. We don’t know what size of the display OPPO will use, though. It seems like it will also be a panel of around 6 inches.
The name of this device is currently unknown, as is its release timeframe. There’s a good chance we’ll get more information about it soon, though. If we had to guess, we’d say it’ll arrive before the end of the year or early in 2027, but that’s just a wild guess.
It’s also worth noting that this is not the first time we’re hearing about this phone. Back in July, Digital Chat Station initially said that OPPO is building a non-foldable wide smartphone.
