There are only so many people in this world, which means there are a finite number of customers smartphone makers can sell their devices to. This is why companies are always trying to find ways to poach customers from each other, even if they’re using different platforms. But as it turns out, smartphone loyalty is at an all-time high amongst Android and iPhone users.
Android and iPhone smartphone loyalty is at an all-time high
According to the latest data from SellCell, smartphone loyalty amongst Android and iPhone users is at its peak. For Android users, loyalty stands at 86.4%, while iPhone users stand at a whopping 96.4%. In fact, for iPhone users, it has gone up from 91.9% since 2021. This means that both Google and Apple are going to have a hard time stealing customers from each other.
But what do these numbers really mean? Basically, in terms of whether a user is more likely to jump ship from one platform to another, it’s quite low. Among iPhone users, that’s 3.6%, while Android stands slightly higher at 13.6%. But even then, those are pretty impressive figures.
Breaking this down further by brand, Samsung’s customer loyalty is at its peak. It stands at 90.1%, up massively from 74% in 2021. Google also saw a rather massive increase in loyalty too, going from 65.2% in 2021 to a whopping 86.8%. That being said, these numbers make sense.
While Apple and Google have released tools to make it easier for users to switch platforms, the ease of switching isn’t really the issue here. When you use a platform long enough, you get used to the workflow. You’ve probably got a lot of apps you bought and paid for too. This means that switching from iOS to Android and vice versa is less about the learning curve and more about the costs.
So, what makes users switch?
To no one’s surprise, price and value are the biggest drivers when it comes to switching platforms. According to the survey, 24.7% of iPhone users say they will switch if it becomes too expensive. 25.8% say they will switch if another brand offers better value. This is the same for Android, where 31.8% of participants say they will switch for a device that offers better value. Interestingly enough, only 6.2% of Android users say they will switch because of price.
But what’s even more interesting is that a good number of users are interested in the tech. 22.5% of iPhone users and 27.1% of Android users say they will switch if the other brand has better technology. This might explain why companies are doing everything they can to introduce new features in their devices. Yes, new features act as a differentiating factor. But they also add value and the perception of having “better technology.”
Overall, it’s an interesting survey, but what do you think?
