According to the latest report, the Android 17 adoption is the complete opposite of impressive thus far. The latest figures have been shared by heise.de, via Android Studio.
Android 16 has the highest adoption rate at the moment
Android 16 has the highest adoption rate of any version of Android, at 25.4%. That’s the percentage of active Android devices that use it as of October 2026. As a reminder, in December last year, Android 16 stood at 7.5%.
Android 14 is second in line, interestingly enough, with 15.3% of active devices still running it. Android 15 is third-place with 14.7%, so it’s not far off from Android 14. Together, they account for 30% of active Android devices at the moment.
They’re followed by Android 13 with 11.8%, and Android 11 with 10.5%. Android 12 is also close behind with 9.6% of devices. Those three versions alone account for over 30% of active Android devices.
Android 17 has an embarrassing 1% share
So, over 30% of active Android devices are still running Android 13 or an older version. So, where’s Android 17 in all that? Well, it’s embarrassingly at a 1% share. Yes, only 1% of currently active Android devices are using it.
Google’s figures show that 56.4% of active devices are running Android 14 or newer. That is a majority, but we’re talking about Android 14 and above. There are three Android versions released after Android 14.
A lot of devices are getting Android 17 as we speak, though. Samsung alone released updates for a ton of its devices just this month. Motorola pushed it out for several of its devices, and the same goes for OPPO and OnePlus. So, that percentage will grow rather fast, but still, this clearly shows that fragmentation is still a considerable issue for Android.
