āWith inflation back on the rise and employment growing only slowly, it is likely that the Fed will be sidelined for at least several more months,ā said Bryan Jordan, chief strategist at Cycle Framework Insights, adding that meaningful easing is āunlikely to come prior to a renewed fall in energy prices and a downtrend in the overall inflation rate.āĀ

Geopolitics and Market Visibility: Key Constraints
GeopoliticsĀ remainsĀ the wild card for rate expectations, the dollar and crossāasset risk appetite. āGeopolitical events, namely the war in Iran, has made any downward revision to the preferred rate by the Federal Reserve near impossible,ā said Noel S. Liston, Managing Broker at Core Industrial Realty, pointing to broadābased cost pressure across oil,Ā chemicalsĀ and petrochemicals.Ā
Institutional allocators say the bigger constraint is visibility on the terminal level and the pace ofĀ theĀ cutting cycle. āPredictability is nearly as important as the absolute level of rates, and that visibility remains limited,ā said Cary Goldman, Founder and Managing Partner at Timber Hill Group. A flat policy rate alone ādoes not unlock the CRE capital markets,ā he said, given stillāelevated costs of capital and tighter debt metrics, though confidence could improve if markets become convinced that policy has definitively peaked.Ā
With the front end pinned and geopolitical risk still elevated, investors increasingly expect the Fed to stay in reactive mode. āWith the uncertainty of the war, its duration and impact on the global oil supply, itās impractical to proceed in any way other than meetingātoāmeeting,ā said Tom Briney, President and CIO of Origin Credit Advisers. He added that if tensions in the Middle East ease quickly, the balance of risks would tilt towardĀ additionalĀ cuts rather than hikes.
