In April, Mercedes-Benz revealed the new electric C-Class, a sedan that copies the Audi A5 with a fastback-style rear end. Now, the Autoblog spies have seen the hot AMG C 63 version undergoing testing ahead of next year’s clash with the first-ever all-electric M3, and it certainly ups the ante with more aggressive styling and a wider stance, the latter of which will be especially useful in keeping the heavy EV in line. This prototype has far less of the deceptive cladding we’ve seen beneath other prototypes’ vinyl camouflage, giving us clues to the styling direction. And if you don’t like EVs, don’t worry – a combustion version of the C-Class has been revealed for 2027, and the AMG division will work their magic there too.

It’s unclear if AMG’s take on the electric C-Class will carry the C 63 badge or some other designation, but we can see that it will carry on the traditions of hot AMGs of old, with a large grille panel in the center, an upturned mouth of a lower intake grille, and large lower side intakes. On this prototype, it seems that the borders of these outer intakes have been made to protrude from the bodywork like canards, and we’re curious to see what aerodynamic effects these will have. Further back, we can see that the wheel arches, both front and rear, will swell significantly, allowing for a wider track and meatier wheels and tires. The rear arches are particularly interesting, as they have a bulge that flows into the shoulder line of the rear door. This line also extends rearward, culminating in a drop-off just above the taillights.

Between these, the sloped rear end and trunk lid have spawned a significant deployable spoiler, and moving down the rear fascia, exposed sections reveal not only red paint but also a large faux diffuser panel, which will probably have strakes similar to those seen on the all-electric AMG GT 4-Door. Multi-spoke wheels, drilled brake discs, three-pointed-star-shaped daytime running lights, and a smattering of AMG badges will complete the look, but what of performance?

AMG’s electric C-Class will be built on the MB.EA-M platform, an architecture adaptation designed specifically for mid-size vehicles like the GLC EQ. The platform’s tech is also found on the AMG CLA 45 EV, where a mammoth 671 horsepower and 1,297 lb-ft of torque are on offer. Our spies had previously told us to expect the electric C 63 to make over 600 hp, but with the baby CLA making vastly more, the C 63 will probably produce over 700 hp, potentially even close to 800. With the electric M3 expected to make well over 800 hp, AMG may decide to go even higher, but we’ll have to wait for the launch of both high-po EVs, likely sometime in the first half of 2027, to confirm anything.
