AMD is reportedly working on its answer to the NVIDIA RTX 5050 GPU with the Radeon RX 9050. It’s meant to be an entry-level graphics card that will cater to those looking to spend considerably less money for a gaming PC upgrade. It’s an interesting choice for multiple reasons. For one, the memory crisis is going to make it noticeably more expensive to manufacturer this type of hardware. Even for entry-level GPUs, the prices are likely to go up. Even a little bit.
So, AMD putting money into the creation and release of a new graphics card might seem like a costly endeavor from the outside. Then again, this might be precisely why AMD is looking to launch the Radeon RX 0590 GPU. Because most if not all other options have ballooned in price. Something less expensive is surely a necessary step at this point.
The AMD Radeon RX 9050 has more cores than the RX 9060 XT, but lower clock speeds
AMD’s efforts to put out a lower-end GPU that will probably cost less are sure to please gamers looking for more affordable options. When it comes to performance in real world scenarios, the jury’s still out on that given that the card hasn’t been announced or released. So, no one has had the chance to do any testing. As reported by VideoCardz, however, leaked details state that the card will use 2,048 cores, which is more than the Radeon RX 9060 XT.
The report also notes that it has lower clock speeds though. So even though it has more cores, performance should still be lower. It also reportedly has 8GB of video memory, and uses the PCIe 5.0 x16 bus standard. The Radeon RX 9050 is said to have clock speeds that are about 24% lower. Even with these lower specs, it’s unclear what AMD will end up charging for this new GPU. Given the current memory crisis and that it’s still impacting the industry, there’s a good chance it won’t be as cheap as it would have a year ago.
