Amazonās Fire TV users already face full-screen video ads whenever they turn on their TV.Ā As if that werenāt enough already, the company is now reportedly throwing pop-up ads on Fire TV devices that take over the full screen. While pop-up alerts arenāt new, this seems to be the first time it has turned into a full-blown ad.
Amazon is now reportedly showing full-screen startup ads on Fire TV
As reported by AFTVnews, Amazon Fire TV users are seeing a full-screen pop-up ad whenever they turn on their TV. The ad in question is about the newly redesigned Fire TV app. It asks users to download it on their smartphones. Thereās a QR code that redirects to the Google Play Store/ Apple App Store. The ad takes up the entire screen, and users need to dismiss it before accessing the rest of the interface.
Pop-ups arenāt new to Fire TVs. They occasionally show alerts, such as when it canāt detect a paired remote or when a software update is available. While even those arenāt the most optimal way of informing, theyāre at least informational and related to the deviceās operation. However, this is the first time that Amazon has turned the pop-up into an ad and shown it right at startup.

Will Amazon open such startup pop-up ads to third parties?
Now, it is understandable that the full-screen ad is currently promoting Amazonās own product, but what are the chances the company will open it up to third-party advertisers in the future? Only time will answer that. If this happens, it can ruin the user experience and even draw widespread criticism. For what itās worth, throwing an ad right in the userās face at the startup doesnāt really set a very positive impression, let alone encouraging them to download the app.
