If you are trying to plan a getaway or book a room for tonight, your favorite navigation app might give you a hard time. A widespread Google Maps bug is causing hotel pins to vanish from search results, leaving travelers staring at mostly blank screens when looking for places to stay.
The issue was first highlighted by user reports on Reddit and Google’s community support forums. It seems to affect users across Android, iOS, and desktop browsers. When searching for hotels on Google Maps, the map view simply fails to populate red pins for nearby accommodations, even in tourist-heavy cities that feature hundreds of options (via Phonearena).
What users are experiencing on different devices
The glitch seems uniquely targeted at lodging searches. Users say searching for restaurants, cafes or local landmarks still populates red pins as it should. However, switching over to hotel queries yields an almost empty map screen with no interactive location markers or pricing overlays.
According to reports, basic troubleshooting steps like clearing app data, zooming in and out on the map, or restarting the phone fail to fix the problem. One user testing the bug across a OnePlus device, a Samsung Galaxy handset, and a PC noted that only a couple of pins appeared in an area known for having dozens of hotels.
Testing shows mixed behavior across mobile operating systems. In reported tests, Google Maps running on Android displayed hotel pins normally in major cities like Manhattan and Kissimmee, Florida. However, the iOS version on iPhone showed only a fraction of expected hotel pins in those exact same locations, pointing to an inconsistent rollout of the glitch.
Current workarounds while waiting for a fix
While the missing map markers make visual browsing difficult, the glitch does not seem to wipe out search data entirely. Hotel entries still show up in the scrollable text list located below the main map view.
Google has not officially commented on what is causing the rendering issue or when a patch will roll out. For now, travelers needing a visual view of nearby hotels may want to rely on the scrollable list view or use web-based alternatives until Google issues a server-side update.
