Google has been constantly updating NotebookLM with new AI features in recent months. In early June, the company added a new feature to NotebookLM that allows users to share notes just like Google Docs. Now, Google has added Video Overviews to NotebookLM, the same feature that it teased at the I/O 2025 event back in May.
Google has finally introduced Video Overviews in NotebookLM
To catch up, NotebookLM already offers Audio Overviews. The feature can turn almost every piece of document you upload into a podcast-like audio summary. Well, you can think of Video Overviews in NotebookLM as the extended, visual version of the same. In the announcement blog post, Google mentions that the “first form” of Video Overviews “takes the form of narrated slides.”
The new feature creates visuals by pulling images, diagrams, quotes, and numbers from the uploaded document. These details will help explain the content better in the narrated slides. Google notes that Video Overviews in NotebookLM are great for explaining data and demonstrating processes. Additionally, they make you easily understand abstract concepts.
You can customize Video Overviews to specify topics to focus on, describe the target audience, and more. Google also shared an example of how you can make the most of the new feature. For example, you can ask, “I know nothing about this topic; help me understand the diagrams in the paper.”
You can also be specific with your requests, like by saying “I’m already an expert on X and my team works on Y; focus on Z.” Video Overviews in NotebookLM are now rolling out to all users in English, with support for more languages coming down the line.
An update for the Studio panel
Besides Video Overviews, Google has also announced an update for NotebookLM’s Studio panel. Thanks to this update, you can now create and store multiple studio outputs of the same type in a single notebook. On top of that, you’ll see four tiles at the top to create Audio and Video Overviews, Reports, and Mind Maps, with just a click.
You can now also multitask within the Studio panel. For example, you can listen to Audio Overviews while checking out Mind Maps at the same time. Moreover, it’s worth noting that NotebookLM recently picked up a “Featured Notebooks” section earlier this month via an update.
