Unihertz has just announced a new smartphone, and it’s the closest to a BlackBerry phone that you can get these days. The device’s name is Unihertz Titan 2, and not only does it have a full physical QWERTY keyboard, but it also comes with two displays.
If you miss the BlackBerry Passport, this Android phone brings it back… kind of
This phone was basically modeled after the BlackBerry Passport, by the looks of it, so if you’re looking for something like that, with Android underneath, this is it. It’s a successor to the Unihertz Titan, which I reviewed back in 2020.
The Unihertz Titan 2 has a square main display that measures 4.5 inches. It has a resolution of 1,440 x 1,440 pixels, just like the BlackBerry Passport. This phone also has a second display on the back, a 2-inch 410 x 50 panel.
The Unihertz Titan 2 has a full QWERTY keyboard, which is touch sensitive
Below the display, you’ll find a 3-row QWERTY keyboard, which has a function row above it. So there are four rows of physical keys there. The entire keyboard is touch sensitive, so you can use it to scroll pages, move your cursor while typing, and so on.
This keyboard is also backlit, and it supports multiple languages, says Unihertz. You can, of course, also create manual shortcuts here for app launches. For example, you can set the letter ‘C’ to be long-pressed in order to launch Chrome.
Android 15 comes out of the box
Android 15 comes pre-installed on the phone, while the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip fuels it. The phone also includes 12GB of RAM and a 5,050mAh battery. 33W charging is supported here, while a charger is included.
A 50-megapixel main camera sits on the back, along with an 8-megapixel telephoto camera (3.4x optical zoom). On the front, Unihertz opted for a 32-megapixel snapper.
Unihertz says that it worked with carriers around the world to make sure this phone is supported. It is in the process of getting approval from AT&T as well. So it will work on both AT&T and Cricket networks.
The Unihertz Titan 2 has already reached its goal on Kickstarter… and then some
The Unihertz Titan 2 is now up on Kickstarter for a crowdfunding campaign. Well, this is more of a pre-order campaign than anything else. The initial goal of 100,000 pledges has been utterly crushed, as Unihertz collected over 8 times as much.
