Earlier this month, Google launched a new Gemini agent for enterprise, and during its Q3 2026 earnings call, Google confirmed it will bring the “same experience” to consumers later this year, starting with the Gemini app.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said on the call, “You will see us extend these agentic experiences beyond search in the Gemini app to Chrome, Android, and our workspace products as well.”
Most of what Pichai described is already available in the Gemini app for paying US subscribers through Spark (recently renamed to ‘Task’). It also includes auto browse on Chrome and screen automation on Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26.
Ads are coming to your AI Agent
This isn’t a surprise, but Google has confirmed that ads will come to your AI agent. After all, Google is still an ad company; even though it’s focusing more on AI and the Cloud, ads still make a good chunk of its money.
Philipp Schindler, SVP and Chief Business Officer at Google, was also on the call and said, “So simple example: an agent could respond, ‘Here’s the insurance product we found, and here’s another strong option’… we’re actually confident that we can actually provide really interesting, compelling advertising models for agentic use cases.”
This example shows that ads could work similarly to how they work in Google Search or Google Shopping. Where you get your results, but also sponsored lists. So if you’re searching for car insurance, your AI Agent could show you 2-3 companies, plus another one that paid to be listed.
AI is expensive to run, especially these always-on AI Agents, and while paid plans already exist, using ads to offset costs for users will be how many of these companies become profitable. Anthropic, the parent company of Claude, just announced it’s going public, and its S-1 showed it lost nearly $42 billion last year and over $80 billion so far this year. These AI companies are burning through money, and ads might be what saves them, even if they annoy users.
