According to a new report by TrendForce, Apple’s first foldable, the iPhone Duo, could grab nearly 30% of the foldable smartphone market in 2027.
Apple could ship 5 million iPhone Duo models by the end of the year
The market research company recently (a day after the iPhone Duo was launched) predicted that Apple will ship 5 million iPhone Duo units by the end of 2026. If that ends up being true, Apple will be able to capture 24.8% of the market, it was noted.
At the same time, TrendForce said it is expecting the foldable smartphone market in general to grow by just 0.5% in 2026. The company expects foldable phone shipments from Android brands to fall by more than 20% year-over-year (YoY).
When it comes to 2027, TrendForce noted it expects the foldable smartphone market to reach 23.5 million shipments. That would be a 16.3% increase YoY. Apple’s first foldable is expected to drive growth in the foldable phone market.

Now, almost a week after the iPhone Duo has been on the market, TrendForce has pushed out a new report. The company reiterated previous projections and forecasted that Apple will capture 29.8% of the foldable smartphone market in 2027.
The company said the following: “TrendForce notes that Apple’s greatest advantage lies in its ability to integrate chips, operating systems, and its developer ecosystem. As app compatibility and hardware reliability improve, the Duo is expected to further expand the practical value of foldable displays, helping shift competition in the foldable smartphone market from form-factor innovation toward multitasking efficiency.”
If this ends up being accurate, Apple will sit in second place in the foldable market in 2027
If TrendForce’s projections end up being accurate, Apple will grab second place in the foldable smartphone market in 2027. It will be positioned right behind Samsung, whose market share is expected to drop from 35.1% in 2026 to 31.9% in 2027.
Huawei will be third-placed in 2027 with 21.3%, down from 24.8% in 2026. All the other companies won’t be anywhere near that, but Huawei will be followed by Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, HONOR, and Motorola, it has been said.
