Trying to draft a fresh document on a phone keyboard right after a meeting usually feels slow and clunky. Google is addressing that frustration by rolling out Docs Live to more Google Workspace subscribers on Android and iOS. The new feature lets you speak naturally into your phone and watch Gemini turn your raw thoughts into a structured draft.
Conversational voice drafting with Gemini context
Unlike basic voice dictation tools that force you to speak every comma and period out loud, Docs Live works like a conversational writing partner. You can simply explain your main points, describe your goals, or ramble through meeting notes in plain English. According to Google, Gemini automatically connects to your Gmail messages, Google Chat threads, and Drive files to fill in missing details.
Smart formatting, admin controls and data privacy rules
The system understands what kind of document you want to create, whether you need a project update, a client pitch, or a talk track for a presentation. You can tell the app what tone or structure you prefer, and Docs Live assembles an organized first draft directly on the page.
Docs Live pulls information directly from your connected inbox and cloud files. With this in mind, privacy remains a key priority for corporate accounts. Google noted in its announcement that the feature stays enabled by default for users with Gemini in Docs turned on. Workspace administrators hold full control through existing Gemini access settings, allowing IT teams to turn off access or manage permissions across their organization.
Available plans and how to get it
The mobile update is rolling out across both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains for the Google Docs app. Access covers Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus accounts, as well as Google AI Pro, AI Ultra, and Education plans. Lower-tier Business Starter accounts are excluded from the launch, so eligible users just need to update their Google Docs app through the Play Store or App Store to try Docs Live today.
