Hyundai’s Elantra N is one of the liveliest sports sedans you can buy for under $40,000. The 276-horsepower engine delivers potent acceleration, the car handles brilliantly, and it complements that performance with overtly sporty looks. For the enthusiast who prefers a stealthy appearance, Hyundai has revealed a new variant of the sedan known as the Elantra N Monochrome. It replaces the bright paintwork and red accents of the standard model with a cleaner aesthetic, while retaining everything that makes this Hyundai such a blast to drive.

Restrained Looks, Same Performance

The new Hyundai Elantra N Monochrome is available in Abyss Black Pearl or the brand’s signature Performance Blue, but the monochrome effect is best represented when the sedan is finished in black. The theme continues with new forged wheels with a dark finish, a carbon-fiber finish for the rearview mirrors and rear spoiler, and darkened trim around the exterior. The darker look successfully tones down some of the Elantra N’s more outlandish styling details; it appears more premium in this specification.
Inside, the Elantra N Monochrome gets a monochrome-only Alcantara steering wheel, complete with black-finished buttons; even the NGS button (N Grin Shift)—usually red on U.S.-spec models—gets a black finish here. Dark Alcantara appears on other components in the sporty cockpit. The darker cabin treatment is broken up with some blue stitching and matching blue graphics on the dual digital displays.

“The Elantra N Monochrome captures the essence of Hyundai N’s motorsport history and commitment to high-performance culture in a restrained package,” said Joon Park, VP and Head of N Management Group, Hyundai Motor Company. “Having listened to customers’ voices for a toned-down high-performance model, we restrained visual emphases and focused on form, texture and material to create a monochromatic rendition of the Elantra N.”
No mechanical changes were mentioned, so the Elantra N Monochrome is expected to stick with its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and standard six-speed manual gearbox. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic is available, and the sports sedan also comes with an N driving mode, a rear chassis brace, and launch control.
Availability, Pricing, and Rivals

Hyundai
The new Hyundai Elantra N Monochrome will initially go on sale in Korea later this month. Details for other markets will follow, but the sedan is confirmed for Canada and Australia, too. While the U.S. was not mentioned specifically, Hyundai did confirm that there are “plans to expand to other global markets”.
Given the popularity of blacked-out packages and grayscale colors in the U.S., the new Hyundai would be a good fit for this market.
Pricing is unknown at this stage, but if the Elantra N Monochrome does make it here, it will likely be priced slightly above the standard Elantra N, which starts at $35,300. Assuming it’s confirmed for this market and starts at around $37,000, it would still be excellent value.

Hyundai
There aren’t many sedans at the Elantra N’s price point with comparable performance. Subaru’s WRX is an exception: It makes 271 hp and starts at $32,495 for 2026, but it’s not as quick as the automatic Elantra N. The GR Corolla and Civic Type R are the next step up in performance, but they’re more expensive.
Hopefully, the Elantra N Monochrome gets here and brings a more refined appearance to what is a hugely entertaining sedan.
