It has been a little less than a month since the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max phones from Apple have been released. However, it turns out that they’re not selling as well as Apple would have liked. So much so that according to an exclusive Nikkei report, Apple is cutting iPhone 18 Pro orders.
Apple cutting iPhone 18 Pro orders
The report suggests that the demand for the new iPhone 18 Pro orders is weaker than Apple expected. As a result, the company is cutting back orders on the iPhone 18 Pro series. Now, this isn’t to say the phone is in trouble or that Apple is cancelling the entire lineup. It’s just Apple making adjustments to production to meet demand. After all, why would Apple produce more units than it might be able to sell, right?
So, how much is Apple cutting? According to the report, the company is slashing component orders by about 15% for October.
But what’s interesting is that there are some conflicting reports over the phone’s popularity. Nikkei’s report suggests that there is weak demand. However, in September, a report from RD Observation suggests that at least in China, demand was stronger than the iPhone 17 models. The report claimed that some stores even saw double the revenue compared to 2025’s models.
Now, it is entirely possible that both reports are true. The iPhone 18 Pro series could be a hit in China but flop everywhere else. Since Apple no longer shares those numbers, it’s really anyone’s guess.
Overshadowed by the iPhone Duo?
Another possible reason for weak demand is because of the iPhone Duo. The iPhone Duo is the first new iPhone form factor from Apple, and as such, many are excited for it. While many of us kind of knew what to expect based on the leaked renders and photos, Apple still had some surprises up its sleeve during the iPhone event.
Then those who attended the event managed to get their hands on the phone and walked away impressed. So it wouldn’t be surprising that those who might have intended to buy the iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max could have changed their minds. Unfortunately, we’re hearing reports of poor production yields for the iPhone Duo. This means securing one during pre-orders could prove to be a challenge.
