Google Photos already packs in quite a lot. One of its key features is the ability to group faces of people and pets. Additionally, it also lets you add names to each face in the library. But then, it can’t currently filter photos by face within a specific album. Well, new evidence suggests that Google Photos could soon let you filter photos of specific people or pets inside an album.
Google Photos could soon let you filter images by people and pets within albums
Users can already search for a person or pet’s name in the search bar to quickly view the pictures they’re in. This new feature could allow you to do so directly within an album. Folks at Android Authority, while digging through version 7.96.0 of Google Photos, have found strings related to this new filtering capability and how it might work. Apparently, some strings mention “Filter photos by face,” which may appear in the album interface.
Additionally, there are strings that refer to filtering by people and pets, along with a separate “Person” filter for unnamed people. There’s also an option to clear the selected filter. Google Photos may even let users apply multiple filters to show pictures that contain one or more faces. For instance, if you have an album with hundreds of photos and want to see only images featuring specific people and a few of your favorite pets, Google might soon allow you to do that.
The feature can be really handy
Considering all that we are seeing, this filtering option can be really handy. Especially when you have a massive album that mostly has group images. This should make sorting through group photos a lot easier. Unfortunately, we don’t get to see a glimpse of what this feature would look like in action. We’re only seeing “strings” of it. It’s also not clear if and when this feature will be available to everyone.
