Sony has released yet another new model of the PS5 Slim console, this time focusing on fixing a problem that has been popping up for users this past year. The PS5 has had its fair share of problems since its release in 2020, not the least of which was stock availability thanks to the supply chain issues and scalpers, and more recently its significantly higher prices due to increased RAM and storage costs, which has led to a considerable decline in sales for Sony.
A more troublesome problem, however, has been an issue with consoles overheating due to the liquid metal leaking and leaving the chipset with little to no cooling from the liquid metal. Sony has already put out one revised model of the PS5 Slim that sort of addressed this problem, but now it looks like this latest model tackles it more directly.
The new PS5 Slim has a revised liquid metal interface similar to the PS5 Pro’s
While this isn’t reportedly the only change, the big revision for this new model is the new style of liquid metal interface that is similar to the one used on the PS5 Pro. A user named modyfikatorcasper on X has posted some details about the new PS5 Slim after having purchased and taken apart the new Wolverine model, and confirmed that the liquid cooling design is different from the base model and first Slim model.
Sony didn’t stop with just those revisions. It also updated the motherboard layout, and it’s using a different heatsink construction compared to the first Slim revision. Additionally, the CR2032 battery can now be removed for replacement if necessary. Though it’s also stated that Sony does not mention this replaceable battery in the manual and that it in fact ships the revised console with the old documentation.
