Google Messages is planning to add native RCS video calls directly into your chats. The messaging app already supports video features through Google Meet and carrier services. However, the RCS standard has now added support for native built-in video calls. This upcoming update will allow Google to introduce a native option that’ll offer video buttons inside the regular chats.
Google Messages could be getting RCS video call support soon
Earlier this year, a Google Messages app teardown hinted that Google was exploring the idea of native RCS video call support. Now, the folks over at Android Authority did a teardown of a new beta release version messages.android_20260924_00_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic reveals much more concrete evidence of the functionality.Â
The company is actively piecing together the required menu buttons and options to make the native RCS support work. The code of the latest beta release contains specific text labels for a confirmation menu. There are strings that show simple prompts asking when a user wants to call a specific contact.
Besides, there are basic options to proceed or cancel the call. There are also internal tags connected to these words, suggesting the buttons belong to the new feature.

According to the source, this update ties into the rollout of RCS Universal Profile 4.0. This standard gives the app tools to handle video calls natively in the regular chat window. Earlier, users had to rely on external connections to see the contact you were chatting with. The teardown further has internal files that show background checks to see whether the contact on the other end is reachable over the new connection.
Unfortunately, the source wasn’t able to provide a visual demo of how the finished menus will actually appear.
