Today is a big Motorola day for us. We first shared the specs of Motorola’s upcoming wide foldable, the very first such phone from the company, which Motorola already teased. Following that, we provided you with some mockups of the device, which are based on the info we have.
Here’s how Motorola’s upcoming wide foldable will compare to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, design-wise
With that in mind, we also wanted to compare this phone with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Even though we still don’t have official images of Motorola’s foldable, the aforementioned mockups have been created based on the sketches we leaked, specs that we provided, and designs of the company’s latest flagship phones, the Motorola Razr Fold and Signature 27.
Now, if you check out the mockups throughout the article, you’ll see a bunch of them created specifically for this comparison. They’re comparing Motorola’s upcoming wide foldable with the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Here are the two phones side-by-side
In the gallery below, you can check what the two phones will look like side-by-side. Considering that we have the exact dimensions of Motorola’s upcoming wide foldable, this represents the actual difference in size.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 measures (H x W x T) 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.5mm when unfolded, and 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7mm when folded. The phone also weighs 201 grams, in case you were wondering.
Motorola’s first wide foldable, on the other hand, will measure 110 x 149 x 5.8mm when unfolded, and 110 x 76 x 12.6mm when folded. That device will weigh 215 grams, so it’ll be a bit heavier, but still a lot lighter than the Apple iPhone Duo, for example. Take into account that Motorola’s wide foldable will also have a slightly bigger battery.
Motorola’s handset will be notably thicker
The thing is, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have a major advantage in terms of thickness. The device is only 9.7mm thick when folded, and 4.5mm when unfolded. Motorola’s handset will measure 12.6mm when folded and 5.8mm when unfolded. In other words, this wide foldable from Motorola will be even thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from 2024, before Samsung thinned down its foldables considerably.
The image below will give you a great look at the size difference between the two phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is ghosted behind Motorola’s device. If you handled the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and thought it’s still too wide and perhaps too tall for you, Motorola’s may suit you… but keep in midn the thickness difference.

Samsung’s handset also has notably sharper corners than the one from Motorola will offer, as you can clearly see in the provided images. Different camera setups are also included on the back. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 includes two vertically aligned cameras, which protrude directly from the backplate. Motorola’s handset, known as the ‘razr flex’ internally (not its final name), includes a horizontal camera bar at the top of its back side, with two cameras on the inside.
