If you enjoy testing early software on your Pixel device, Google just gave you another reason to check for updates. Nearly three weeks after the previous release, Google has officially rolled out Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5, packing a healthy round of bug fixes and minor interface refinements for testers.
The update focuses heavily on everyday usability, eliminating several persistent glitches that managed to slip into earlier previews. Whether you test software on an older model or a brand-new flagship, this release brings welcome stability to the platform ahead of its official public debut.
Resolving camera crashes and frozen touchscreens
The bulk of this update centers on squashing bugs that directly impacted daily phone use. According to Google’s official release notes, Beta 5 addresses a critical stability flaw that caused unexpected device reboots when users scrolled through media-heavy apps.
The update also fixes a frustrating bug where launching Google Wallet via the power button shortcut caused the touchscreen to freeze up entirely. Mobile photographers get a fix too, as Google resolved a bug that triggered camera crashes during panorama image processing.
Additional fixes clean up distorted Bluetooth audio after ending phone calls, correct navigation routing issues inside Private Space, and resolve display glitches like system volume sliders failing to show up while casting media.
Subtle UI changes and device availability
Beyond behind-the-scenes bug fixes, Google appears to be fine-tuning the user interface. Beta 5 walks back recent reorganizations to the media player and brightness slider within Quick Settings, Android Authority found. At the same time, it expands menu updates originally seen on Pixel 11 devices, renaming the Battery section in Settings to “Battery & charging” while reorganizing screen saver options across older models.
Google is distributing the update in two distinct build packages:
- Build CP41.260828.005.A6: Designated for older hardware, including the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 family, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet.
- Build CP41.260828.004.A8: Designated for all newer hardware, covering the Pixel 8, Pixel 9, Pixel 10, and Pixel 11 series.
How to install the update
Pixel owners enrolled in the Android Beta Program can download Beta 5 as an over-the-air update directly from their device settings. Alternatively, advanced users can flash the official system images available through Google’s developer portal.
