Back when Valve announced the Steam Frame, its second VR headset, one of the major detail that it didn’t share with the public was what the headset would cost. Given the current landscape with the memory crisis and plenty of other devices, including Valve’s own Steam Machine, having been increased in price as a result of rising component costs for manufacturers, many speculated early on that Valve would charge a higher amount for the Steam Frame when it finally launched.
As of today Valve has now listed the official Steam Frame price, and anyone that’s interested can head to the official Steam store and join the wait list for the headset. The Steam Frame will start at a price of $1,059, but it also comes in two SKUs. The $1,059 model will come with 256GB of storage. For those that need or want more than that, Valve will also offer a 1TB kit that has a higher price of $1,299.
The Steam Frame price confirmation didn’t come with a release date
Now that Valve has confirmed the price for its new headset, people know what they’ll have to spend to get one, but not when they will actually get one because Valve hasn’t announced a release date yet. As of right now, all consumers can do is sign up to join the wait list for a Steam Frame if they have interested in buying one.
Valve confirms that the wait list will close on September 17 at 10AM Pacific Standard Time. After that point, Valve will randomize the wait list and start selecting people to buy the headset. This is the exact same thing it did with the Steam Machine, and the Steam Controller. The headset comes with both right and left controllers, and it comes bundled with a copy of Half Life: Alyx.
