According to a new report by TrendForce, Apple will capture a quarter of the foldable phone market in 2026 thanks to its new smartphone. As many of you know, Apple announced its first foldable the other day: the iPhone Duo.
Apple is said to ship 5 million iPhone Duo models in 2026, grabbing 25% of the market
The report claims that Apple will ship 5 million iPhone Duo models by the end of 2026. If that ends up happening, Apple will manage to claim 24.8% of the foldable smartphone market. In other words, the company would end up sitting right below Samsung in second place.
It is also worth noting that the global foldable smartphone shipments are expected to reach 20.2 million units by the end of 2026. If that ends up happening, that would represent a 0.5% rise compared to 2025.
TrendForce also noted that folding phones are on the rise thanks to recent launches, especially the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, and now the iPhone Duo is expected to contribute to the category.
Samsung will stay the top foldable smartphone company, as expected
It is said that Samsung will account for 7.1 million shipments with a corresponding 35% market share. Huawei is expected to reach 5 million shipments for its folding phones, with a 24.8% market share.
TrendForce added: “As foldable devices mature, competition is increasingly focused on thinner, lighter designs, reduced creasing, and long-term reliability. Crease reduction no longer depends solely on hinge design or any single material. Instead, manufacturers are moving toward the co-design of ultra-thin glass (UTG), optically clear adhesive (OCA), OLED modules, and support structures.”
The company also shared a global foldable smartphone shipment forecast for 2027. That forecast says that folding phones are expected to reach 23.5 million shipments in 2027.
Apple’s iPhone Duo just launched, and it’s not yet available. It won’t be until October, but it’s already expected to grab a notable chunk of the market even by the end of this year.
