Sony’s revival of the WH-1000XM4 headphones is near but they haven’t quite hit the market, however the company has put them up for pre-order for those looking to upgrade their wireless headphones. Sony’s original WH-1000XM4 headphones were a particular favorite of the noise cancelling headphone enthusiast community.
Praised for their capabilities in active noise cancellation and good audio quality, along with features like the Quick Attention Mode, and their folding design, the WH-1000XM4 continued Sony’s legacy of top-quality ANC headphones. This new version, officially called the WH-1000XM4C, throw a few features out the window for a less expensive price. Where the original pair retailed for $349.99, the new pair is retailing for $299.99. That price decrease does come with a trade-off. Specifically, the new WH-1000XM4C headphones come with a slightly lower battery life. Sony says they will last up to 34 hours without ANC enabled. If you turn it on, then that drops to a maximum of 27 hours.

The WH-1000XM4C headphones went on pre-order earlier this week, specifically on September 8, and you can pick them up directly from Sony or from retail partners like Amazon. While these are pre-order only right now, a full launch is just around the corner. Amazon and Sony both confirm that units will be shipping by or on September 28.
The WH-1000XM4C come in three colors at launch, which includes Black, Platinum Silver, and Lavender. The Lavender color is new, while the other two colors are staples in the Sony WH-1000X line. Sony has not confirmed whether or not it plans to launch new colors of these headphones beyond these three. That being said, the company has launched more than three colors of its last few headphones from this series. Most recently it launched a new green color of the WH-1000XM6.
