Greener On The Other Side (of the pond)
Across the Atlantic, Nissan is launching a new city EV, and it’s definitely not going to be launched in the U.S. According to Nissan, it’s a car “built in Europe, for Europe,” built on Renault’s AmpR Small platform, and assembled in the brand’s Revoz plant in Slovenia.
The new small EV will be called the Pixo, a name that was once used for a rebadged Suzuki Alto in the United Kingdom from 2009 to 2013. Now, the Pixo comes back as a Renault EV, and because it uses the AmpR Small platform, it shares the same bones as the Twingo E-Tech and the new Dacia Spring.

Many details of the Pixo are still unknown at the time of writing, but Nissan gave us a teaser statement: “Small in size yet big in personality, PIXO is the newest addition to Nissan’s growing electric vehicle line-up. Created for modern urban life, it combines compact dimensions with intuitive technology and distinctive Nissan design, making everyday city driving easy and enjoyable.”
Nissan’s teaser has a retro arcade-game style, so it’s safe to assume the brand pulled from its 1980s design archive, but we’re expecting a modern twist. Nowadays, automakers are blending nostalgic designs and callbacks with the latest tech, and Nissan is along for that ride. While Nissan designed the Pixo’s exterior, the platform looks set in stone.
So far, Nissan hasn’t disclosed any specifications. Being a city car, we’re not expecting 1,000 horsepower and 100 kWh batteries, but because it’s a rebadged model, we have a template to work with. The Renault Twingo E-Tech has a 79-horsepower electric motor that drives the front wheels and is powered by a 27.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The Renault Twingo E-Tech has an estimated range of 163 miles (WLTP), and its DC charging power is capped at 50 kW.
Launching September 23, 2026
Sources point to Nissan pricing the Pixo under $24,000 (under €20,000), a price point the Japanese brand hasn’t touched in Europe in a while. Nissan exited the segment in the past because of stiff competition. During that time, it looks like the brand went back to the drawing board.
Unfortunately, the Nissan Pixo will be a Europe-only model. It’s made only in Slovenia with the Renault group and Renault powertrains, so I’m not holding my breath. The Nissan Pixo launches on September 23, 2026.
