Intel is reportedly going to increase the prices of its CPUs in October 2026, following a price increase on chips by up to 10% that happened in the early part of the year. According to the reports, which haven’t confirmed the price increase with Intel and Intel has yet to publicly announce a new increase, the company’s CPUs will once again go up by up to 10%.
Intel has increased prices on its CPUs since late 2025, so this is more par for the course. Another increase is also the latest in a long line of price bumps on many of the most expensive components that make up a PC. Other companies, such as NVIDIA and all of its board partners, have increased prices on GPUs since the later half of 2025. Most if not all of the price increases are a direct result of the memory crisis. After Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix shifted strategies from producing a lot more consumer product to mostly providing chips for AI data centers, the cost went up on RAM, SSDs, GPUs, CPUs, and products that contain all of those components.
This also includes game consoles, with Sony having raised the price on the PS5, as well as Xbox having raised the price on the Xbox Series X|S units. Nintendo has more recently raised the price of the Switch 2. Though only Sony and Microsoft have raised prices more than once.
Intel will increase chip prices, focusing more on high-profit CPUs while discontinuing “small” Core products
In addition to the price increase on its CPUs, Intel is reported to be discontinuing certain processors. The report states that the company will be discontinuing some “small” Core chips that account for less profit, while shifting its focus to chips that have higher profit margins. Specific prices on Intel’s chips after this price increase haven’t been mentioned.
