Countdowns to major tech keynotes almost always bring last-minute leaks, but service providers sometimes step into the spotlight a bit early. South Korean carrier LG Uplus recently put up an official landing page hyping Apple‘s anticipated iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the rumored foldable iPhone Ultra. While a carrier listing usually gets everyone excited, taking a closer look shows that mobile operators are pretty much relying on the exact same rumor mill as the rest of us.
The LGT Shop page relies heavily on mockups and speculative specs rather than inside info from Apple. The page even admits that its product photos are actually AI-generated renders instead of real marketing images.
Placeholder details, AI renders, and translation mix-ups
The landing page features several odd details that clash with what most industry insiders expect. Machine translations point to conflicting launch dates like September 18 or September 26, whereas typical pre-orders usually kick off the Friday right after Apple’s event (via AppleInsider).
The color options on the site do not match recent leaks either. The carrier lists four options for the Pro models—silver/grey, wine red, white, and black—while most reports point to a three-color lineup featuring sky blue. For the foldable Ultra, the carrier lists white, black, and red, while leakers lean toward just two choices.
Storage options and pricing raise even more eyebrows. The reseller lists matching 256GB and 512GB versions for both the Pro models and the foldable Ultra, leaving out the usual 1TB options. It also lists the 256GB iPhone Ultra at 3.49 million won (around $2,595), which is noticeably higher than the rumored $2,099 starting price.
Why carriers set up early landing pages
Despite the inaccuracies, putting up these early landing pages makes total sense from a marketing standpoint. In South Korea and the US, carriers often roll out teaser forms before Apple events to generate buzz and persuade customers not to upgrade early.
Underneath all the noise, rumors still expect both lineups to run on Apple’s 2nm A20 Pro chip, with the iPhone 18 Pro bringing a variable camera aperture and the iPhone Ultra featuring a foldable design. The carrier will simply swap out these wild guesses with real specs as soon as Apple takes the stage.
