Dell is at IFA 2026 and has announced a new laptop model, the Dell 14S, and it’s what the company says is the essence of what makes the best affordable college laptop. According to Dell, there are three key pillars that hit the mark for the best affordable laptop that college students could pick up: Style, battery life, and value.
Dell is entering into a space with the 14S that has recently been popularized by the Apple MacBook Neo. College students have, of course, been a target market for laptop makers for many years. The MacBook Neo, however, introduced an affordable sleek laptop that came in a few different fun colors, while being considerably less expensive than your average MacBook. Following Apple’s MacBook Neo launch, Samsung its own competing laptop, and Lenovo’s MacBook Neo-esque offering, the IdeaPad Vibe, was leaked back in the middle of August.
The Dell 14S is the “everyday Windows laptop built for students, college, and young adults”
Dell isn’t just targeting students with the 14S. Students are a big focus, but Dell also makes it clear that the 14S is designed for “young adults and anyone who needs a device that keeps up with their
day, reflects their personality and delivers on the things that matter most.”
The Dell 14S will be available in four different colors, which include Dusty Rose, Linen, Washed Denim, and Velvet Green. As it’s meant for students and people who might want something that’s easy to carry around, the 14S is just 13.5mm thin, and it only weighs about 2.5 pounds.
It also has a 14-inch display with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and a refresh rate of 120Hz, as well as a resolution of 2.8K. Under the hood Dell is using the series 3 Intel Core 5 and Intel Core 7 chips, with integrated Intel Graphics to handle GPU tasks. Dell hasn’t announced pricing yet, but says it will be available closer to availability. The Dell 14S officially launches in North America this Fall. In addition to the Dell 14S, the company also announced new Alienware monitors for gamers.
