If you own the Samsung Galaxy S25 and you’re looking forward to the Android 17 update, you’re in luck. While the update has yet to be released, Samsung has started rolling out the first One UI 9 beta for Galaxy S25 smartphones.
One UI 9 beta arrives for Galaxy S25 phones
To date, the Samsung Galaxy S26 phones were among the first Samsung devices to take part in the One UI 9 beta. But if you haven’t upgraded to Samsung’s latest flagships yet, you can take part in the Galaxy S25 One UI 9 beta, assuming you own that device instead.
So far, the beta is available for the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, Galaxy S25 Ultra, and the Galaxy S25 FE. Oddly enough, the Galaxy S25 Edge isn’t on that list. We’re not sure if it will come at a later date. Also, for now, the beta is only available for users in the UK, India, and South Korea. However, we imagine that it should eventually expand to cover more regions.
If you’re interested in taking part in the beta, you can sign up for it via the Samsung Members app. After that, you can download the beta by going to your phone’s Settings and then Software update. However, we should caution you that this is a beta. This means that there could still be lingering bugs and other issues that have yet to be ironed out.Â
So if you’re daily driving the Galaxy S25, it might not necessarily be the best idea in case something goes wrong.
Earlier than expected
Even though the Galaxy S25 is getting beta access later than the Galaxy S26, we can already see the positive effects of Google’s change-up in release schedule.Â
Before this, Google would typically release its new major Android update in Q3/Q4 of the year. After that, Android OEMs would focus on their current flagships before releasing it for older devices.
Under the old schedule, the Galaxy S26 would get beta access first. Then the Galaxy S25 would get it the following year. But now, it looks like the Galaxy S25 can take part in the beta much earlier than before. It also means there’s a good chance the public release of One UI 9 for the Galaxy S26 and S25 series could happen by the end of 2026.
