While Apple has officially announced the iPhone event for September 9, a wrench could be thrown into pre-orders. Typically, Apple will start pre-orders that Friday, which would be September 11. For obvious reasons, Apple is trying to avoid that date for its iPhone launch and has even started pre-orders on the Saturday before (Sept 12).
Back in 2015, with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple delayed pre-orders until the following Saturday, so they wouldn’t start on September 11. There’s now a report that it could happen again this year.
The official launch day should still be that following Friday, September 18. At least for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The iPhone Ultra (the foldable) will likely launch a bit later. Apple does typically launch new iPhone models a bit later than the rest of the family, as we’ve seen with the iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 12 Mini, etc.
Pre-orders typically start at 5AM PT
This means we’ll all need to get up early on a Saturday to place our pre-order. The last few years, Apple has moved the pre-order start time from Midnight PT to 5AM PT, which is definitely a better time for those of us on the East Coast.
With the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max this year, we are expecting to see price increases. This is due to the RAM crisis currently affecting everyone. Apple has already raised prices on virtually every product they sell, except for the iPhone and Apple Watch. We expect to see those price increases next week. Though somehow, the Apple Polishing Cloth just got a 60% price decrease with the new Mac Minis and the Mac Studio.
This year is going to be different, in a lot of ways, when it comes to the iPhone event. We won’t be seeing the base iPhone 18, and Tim Cook will no longer be CEO – today is his last day as CEO actually. It’ll be John Ternus’ first event as Apple’s CEO.
