The Lenovo Legion Go is reportedly having issues with the BIOS where some users were ending up with bricked handhelds after installing the firmware, turning their handhelds into broken hunks of plastic, metal, and glass.
Lenovo’s Legion Go launched in October of 2023, so it’s well out of warranty by now. That poses a problem for anyone who runs into issues like the ones people are experiencing and sharing online. As reported by The Verge, this issue is only popping up on the original Legion Go handheld and not the other models, and it’s not affecting every person who owned one for a very specific reason.
Users who own the original Legion Go would have to have installed the firmware BIOS V42 (N3CN42WW) and it had to be directly from Lenovo’s website. The Verge notes that your device might also not have had the brick issues even if this firmware was installed, as they installed it and the handheld ended up fine after with them being able to play games without a problem.

According to reports from owners on Reddit and responses in the comments, Lenovo might take care of repairs without charging owners of the handhelds even if it’s out of warranty. A user named Daniel_Legion on the Lenovo forums responded to a post about the bricked handhelds stating that “while the root cause has not been identified yet, it is clear it is not user error. As such it should generally be handled under warranty and, in the case of out-of-warranty devices, it should be repaired free of charge, but please check local laws.”
The Verge points out that this suggests Daniel_Legion is saying that free-of-charge fixes for out of warranty devices is possible, but that it might rely on local laws and those laws forcing Lenovo to issue the fix at no cost to the owner.
