Google is putting AI into just about everything on Pixel devices from photo editing to scam detection, and now it will reportedly be infusing battery usage summaries with AI for even more insights for those that want them.
The way battery usage summaries work now is pretty straightforward. You can tap on the battery section in the phone’s settings, then tap on battery usage, and you’ll see a bar graph that starts from when you pulled the phone off of the charger and started using it, with screen-on time below that, and then a summary of app use below that. Each app will also show how much screen time it had, and what percentage of the battery drain it contributed to. The new AI-powered battery summaries on Pixel devices will reportedly go deeper than that.
AI battery usage summaries will give Pixel owners tips to improve battery life
Battery life on Pixel devices and really every phone, is a constant focus for users who want to get the most time out of their device every single charge cycle. With the AI summaries, Google is giving Pixel owners a way to actually improve their battery life if they feel like they aren’t getting enough out of it.
As Android Authority reports, the AI summaries will give users tips on how to improve battery life. The feature will also reportedly use Gemini Nano for locally-generated battery usage summaries. Android Authority notes that the feature will be available in battery health, and users will be able to find it by tapping on the three dot menu in that section.
It’s not clear when the feature is rolling out, but it was already available in the recently launched Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 software. It wasn’t accessible to users but Android Authority says it was able to activate it to see what it does.
