The OnePlus 16 is set to launch in just a couple of months, likely shortly after Qualcomm announces the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip family at Snapdragon Summit. With that, we’re starting to see more leaks about the new device. Including one that even Samsung might want to take notice of.
OnePlus has really been pushing its display technology over the past few years, with the OnePlus 15 featuring a 165Hz display, and now the OnePlus 16 rumored to have an 185Hz display. But that’s not all; according to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, “OnePlus and BOE jointly customized the X4 luminescent material, and internal testing shows that it outperforms Samsung’s M-series luminescent material in almost all aspects.”
It will have very low power consumption, a doubled lifespan, and extremely narrow four-sided bezels. But if that wasn’t enough, it’ll also have top-tier luminescent material and circuit design.
OnePlus using a display from BOE that can beat Samsung’s M-series displays is quite incredible. Of course, we’ll have to wait til we get one in hand to see if it is truly a better display or not. But Samsung might finally have some competition.
OnePlus 16 won’t come to most markets
While it’s great to see all of this news about the OnePlus 16, unfortunately, it won’t be coming to most of the world. OnePlus has already left North America and Europe and is only focusing on mid-range and budget devices in India. Which means that the OnePlus 16 is very likely to be a China-only smartphone. That’s quite unfortunate, given how incredible this device sounds.
It’s slated for an October launch, likely shortly after the OPPO Find X10 series gets announced (which OPPO typically uses MediaTek’s new chip on those devices). So we won’t have long to wait, to find out where the OnePlus 16 will be available.
