Samsung hasn’t even started rolling out the stable One UI 9 update to all eligible devices. However, early details about the next version are already spilling out. Leaked screenshots from an internal testing build flashed onto a Samsung Galaxy S26 give us our very first design look at One UI 9.5, showcasing a sleek, glass-inspired aesthetic that adds noticeable visual depth across Samsung’s mobile interface.
Tipster Fahad Ali Javed shared the early preview on X after getting an internal test build running. Rather than tearing up the interface and starting over, Samsung seems focused on giving its software a much-needed layer of polish, blending frosted elements with handy ergonomic tweaks.
Shiny borders, drop shadows, and subtle glass effects
The visual changes in One UI 9.5 lean heavily into a layered, semi-transparent look that some are already comparing to Apple‘s Liquid Glass style. Home screen widgets now feature distinct backdrop shading to help them stand out against bright wallpapers. Meanwhile, top header action buttons, volume sliders inside Settings, and floating navigation bars carry shinier borders and subtle drop shadows. This creates clear visual separation without cluttering the screen.
This build also gives special attention to small details, such as a soft glow effect around the volume controls. Together, these subtle tweaks give the whole UI a cleaner, slightly more tactile feel while keeping app layouts familiar to Galaxy owners.
Smarter dialer search and native app locking
The leak also points to some genuinely useful functional updates. Samsung appears to be reworking the Phone app by moving its search icon from the hard-to-reach top-right corner down to a floating bar at the bottom. This change should make one-handed use a lot easier. Even better, the dialer gets integrated Samsung AI search that works a lot like the system-wide Finder tool, letting you pull up contacts, past interactions, and related contextual actions right from the numeric keypad.
This design preview follows a separate leak from the exact same firmware, which revealed Samsung is finally adding a native App Lock feature to Galaxy phones. That tool will let users lock individual applications directly from the home screen or app drawer without relying on third-party security apps.
Expected release timeline
Remember that these screenshots come from very early internal testing software. So, Samsung could easily adjust, polish, or completely scrap some of these design tweaks before an official public release. That said, if Samsung follows its typical rollout schedule, One UI 9.5 will probably be officially released alongside the flagship Galaxy S27 series in early 2027. A wider rollout to eligible existing Galaxy phones should start in the first half of that year.
